For Editentité’s latest release, S Diamah brought two tracks from the region of Biskra, at the doors of Algerian Sahara. She transposed these two songs from popular parties to the club with her very personal aesthetic, while keeping and emphasizing their initial spirit.

On Darbel El Bendir, a song from Ouled Naïl culture, S Diamah retains the strong and catchy voices of Abdelrahmane and his choir. But the original arrangement of brass instruments and 80s snare drums is abandoned to make room for a mix of ethereal synths, trancey arpeggios and techno kick drums. While following the same melodic evolution than the original track, this remix takes a new dimension by enhancing the emotion of the voices, to finally conclude with a cathartic breakbeat.

Ya Fatma Ya Fatma is a hit song by Lazhar Djallali, and from the start of the remix we recognize his voice, carried by the Algerian double reed instrument called zorna. The original arrangement and the remix are then built around the electric bass that drives the song. But the cyclical percussive rhythm of Lazhar Djallali is here replaced by techno kicks and surgical breakbeats, while S Diamah’s synths answer back to the zorna.

Pour cette nouvelle sortie sur Editentités, S Diamah nous ramène deux titres en provenance de la région de Biskra, aux portes du Sahara Algérien. Elle a transposé ces morceaux de la fête populaire au club à travers son esthétique très personnelle, tout en conservant et en mettant en exergue l’essence de ces chansons.

Sur Darbel El Bendir, morceau imprégné de la culture Ouled Naïl, S Diamah conserve les voix fortes et et entraînantes d’Abdelrahmane et ses choristes. Mais l’arrangement original à base de cuivres et de caisse claire 80s est abandonné au profit d’un assemblage de synthétiseurs éthérés, d’arpège trance et de kicks techno. Tout en suivant la même évolution mélodique que le titre original, ce remix prend une autre dimension en renforçant l’émotion du chant, pour finir sur un break cathartique.

Ya Fatma Ya Fatma est un tube de Lazhar Djallali, et dès l’introduction du morceau on reconnaît sa voix portée par la zorna, hautbois algérien. L’arrangement original comme le remix de S Diamah sont ensuite construits autour de la basse électrique qui entraîne le morceau, mais les percussions au rythme cyclique de Lazhar Djallali sont remplacées par des kicks techno et des breakbeats millimétrés, tandis que les synthés de S Diamah répondent à la zorna.
