ENGLISH :
If there is one thing the Brits excel at, it is the composition of catchy melodies and obsessive rhythms. Here's for proof, three tracks of very different styles but not so far away in their structure and their pulsation. From 90's pop to the contemporary neo-trad scene, via a new age version of a sailor's song, let's dive into a steady vibration.
In the early 90's, the British synthpop band Thompson Twins was on the decline, and at the same time their sound became more influenced by the emerging rave scene. Juna XXL decided to keep the backbone of the song "Come Inside", casting it into an English pastoral field, ready for sunrise in front of the subwoofers.
Stone Age is a 90's band that tried to capitalize on the new age Celtic music a la Deep Forest. Although the musicians who make up the band are all French, their song Reel Legend is a cover of the famous British sailor song "Drunken Sailor", a true earworm. René Danger intervened to simplify the arrangement, resulting in a sobered version, still as powerful but more dancefloor-friendly.
Nigel Eaton is undoubtedly one of the greatest contemporary British hurdy-gurdist. If he has collaborated with many artists, he has only released two solo albums, the last of which dates back to 2002. At that time, the Drum'n'Bass sound had become omnipresent, and had already infiltrated Celtic music (through artists like Denez Prigent or Martyn Bennett) whose rhythms are close. Nigel Eaton recaptures the broken beat and the pulsed bass, which he mingles with his hurdy-gurdy in a very short piece explicitly entitled Hum'n'Bass. Lover of hypnotic rhythms, Rogue lvl proposes a lengthened version to make the pleasure last until exhaustion.
